Collecting, preserving and displaying esthetic art objects with historically significant artifacts for future generations are important and necessary for mankind to stay connected and understand our past in order to move forward into the future on the correct paths. Preservation of culture and legacy acts to build foundations for powerhouses that distinguishes us from all other creatures. Dr. Lowe believes we have a responsibility to attempt to motivate young people to develop excellent academic & social skills and talents, then encourage them to pursue their dreams, their goals and enjoy their journey. There are still professional goals ahead that she contemplates and aspire to place into her medical armamentarium and career. Presently, she is truly seeking to contribute her talents on dynamic corporate boards to bring more diversity, broader insight and a globally visionary prospective to the decision-making processes of our health care industry.

Born and raised in Belle Glade, Florida - the western part of Palm Beach County - best known for its winter vegetable produce, sugar cane and great athletes. Dr. Lowe was blessed with a loving, supportive blue-collar family and a concerned close-knit community structure that encouraged high achievements in education, business and sports. She learned early on about respect for everyone, honest work and setting high goals.

After completing her medical school requirements within three years, from the University of Minnesota, School of Medicine in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Lowe traveled to New York to study at Columbia-Harlem Hospital’s ICU, then traveled on to the National Institutes of Health—Eye Institute, for additional studies and exposure to medical research and investigation of rare eye conditions. Her Flexible Med/Surgical Internship was completed at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. A Surgical Residency in Ophthalmology was obtained in Minneapolis, followed by the Intraocular Lens Implant Course taken in Los Angeles, California. In 1981, Dr. Lowe became Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She returned to Palm Beach County, Florida to practice medicine as a General & Comprehensive, Board Certified Ophthalmologist.

Dr. Lowe’s state-of-the-art office located in Palm Beach Gardens, along with a professional staff, have performed numerous eye surgeries and provided excellent medical eye care for many residents and visitors of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Dr. Lowe has also frequently served as a child advocate, mentoring young students, as well as encouraging and nurturing young, talented visual and performing artists. She has a great track record of success and a stellar reputation. She has diligently provided a helping hand to alleviate pain and suffering or put a twinkle into many eyes. As a healer and health care provider she is home grown and committed to her community. She is a long-time member & officer of the T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society, Palm Beach County Medical Society, International Women’s Forum, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Founder and President of Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches previously located at the Historic Jenkins House, the Female Doctors Group. Palm Beach Cultural Council Chair Emerita, member of St. Paul AME Church, the LSH Class of ‘68 and numerous other civic and social affiliations.

As a private practicing Ophthalmologist for four decades, restoring sight to the young with spectacles, contact lenses and/or muscle surgery, cataract removal, laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration for the elderly, treating young and old alike to date has been the pinnacle of rewards for Dr. Lowe. A woman of high achievement and positive influence with strong commitment to Community Service and The Arts, Dr. Lowe remains engaged in health and medical issues at the state and local level for many years, as well as, an advocate of visual and performing arts.

Reflecting on some of Dr. Lowe’s professional accomplishments, as editor of the local medical society journal during her term, the Palm Beach County Medical Society’s “On Call” journal received the state recognition for best county journal. She has volunteered for many years on the Legislative Committee, served as Chairperson as well, with many visits to Tallahassee on medical issues important to the health maintenance and public wellness of the citizens of the state of Florida. She is engaged in discussions with state representatives on difficult health-care issues, as a patient advocate, in order; for them to make informed decisions on complex medical issues. She gave the Commencement Address to the Graduating Seniors at Northwood University in 2002. Presently, Dr. Lowe seeks to serve on corporate boards to contribute diversity, broader insight with a global visionary prospective to the decision-making processes in our health care industry.

Dr. Lowe’s passion and on-going commitment to the Arts in this community remains constant. She is one of the four Chair Emeriti of the Palm Beach Cultural Council and has served at the state level on the Florida Arts Council. As Founder of Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches, she continues to devote considerable time, energy and efforts to the local arts community. Artists Showcase is a community-based arts organization, previously located at the Historic Jenkins House, the mission is “To Promote and Display the Artworks and Contributions of Artists of Color, To Cultivate and Develop an Awareness for all of the children and adults through Multi-Cultural Diversity.—Providing under-served youth education, art, cultural exposure and life enrichment.”

Dr. Lowe’s motto is “Live, Learn, Pass It On and Enjoy the Journey.” Her husband, Patrick Orlando, reminds her often about the importance of being vertically aligned in the universe, he says, “God, Family and Business are the essential ingredients for a happy, healthy and successful life.” To honor her maternal grandparents, who were farm owners and entrepreneurs, she established in their names “The Hampton & Isabella Brown Memorial Scholarship” at the University of Minnesota. She makes a concerted effort each day to live by example, as she propitiously relates to children and people from all walks of life.
